I've been having thoughts of throwing up after every meal. I'm overweight and want to be skinny and pretty. I watch vids on youtube on how to do it and it looks like an easy way to lose weight. I think about it every time i go to the toilet. Should i throw up what i've eaten today or not. I'm really confused.

I wouldn't.

If you want to lose weight and stay healthy - AND maybe alleviate your depression at the same time, excercise is the way to go. Even a little bit is better than nothing, walking to the shops etc etc

I find a long walk does heaps for my state of mind myself, or a bike ride, or swimming.

maybe you could go to aqua aroberics. That wount put any weight on your ankle, get you out and about etc.

Purgeing is not a good way to loose weight, their are a lot of negative health side effects to it.

Can I suggest you talk to your councellor or gp about your thoughts and they may be able to organise some support for you.

Hello Dolphingurl ..... I'm sure it's because of being laid up for so long that you're having these thoughts ... but they're only thoughts ... don't let them trick you that this is the way to go. When you're off crutches and stronger you'll probably lose the weight - and can put into practise an exercise programme. And when you next see your Dr it might be a good idea to tell him/her what you're thinking. It's been a long slow haul for you - don't give up/in now! ...... Daze

PS ...... Others here might be more helpful to you too.

Aw hon, please don't stress it - I know its easy for someone else to say 'its just weight' and ya know, make platitudes.

I know a bit about weight - I'm six feet two (or I was once anyway) and I have a broked back - I really need to control my weight - in the last couple of years its yoyo'd from around 123.kg to as low as 76 - now, its around about oh I dunno, two holes in on the belt and I pay my doctor to worry about it now. (OK , its round about 90ish at the moment but shhh).

I know a bit more now about bulemia than I did at the time, but there was a lengthy period where my then wife was bulemic (spelling, sorry???) and I wasn't overly understanding.

In fact, there may have been an occasion where we came back from a big supermarket buying session and um, I said something like ah, Don't you pack it away, I'll see to it.'

And I took bags of food into the Loo and emptied them out into the bowl.

When quizzed, I said something helpful and understanding like 'I'm just cutting out the Middle Man - think how much time I've just saved ya, not having to sneak around to puke.' Oh dear. Not helpful, aye.

Weight will come off in its own time hon and yeah, I think you have enough on ya plate, so to speak, without putting yourself through that too.

Be kind and gentle with you eh, and offer yourself, some of the understanding and care you so readily offer others, DG. flower

I got out the scissors last night and scratched up my arm. Didn't break the skin but the pain was enuf. I have seriously had enough of things right now. I want my husband to give me some freedom and let me go out more. I'm seriously losing it here. Noone seems to be caring right now and i'm not happy.

Hi Dolphingurl,

It isnt a good idea to throw up as a way to control your weight. you end up stuffing your teeth, your gullet etc etc, the list goes on and on.

Why are we so swayed that thin is beautiful, CRAP.

Healthy is beautiful.
Be it big or small.

Google images of anorexics, sadly, they have started where you are now, wondering about throwing it all back up. There is nothing pretty at all about someone who has bones sticking out all over.

you do need to talk with someone in the know about this, no matter what, you are obviously not happy within yourself, and are needing some one who can help guide you.

I used to od on laxatives, as a teen, buggered my gut big time, and, at the end when I had lost loads of weight, I was no happier. It truly goes much deeper than our skin!

Best wishes to a healthy happy you.
We are always our best when we can simply accept ourselves as we are.
