Re: Treatment for bipolar without medz
Hi mumtothree. 50 years ago and in lots of countries round the world today thats all the treatment bipolars could or can get, exercise, stress avoidance and good food. I would say how well you would do depends on how severe your disorder is and possibly how much stress or triggers there are in your environment. I would be very cautious and have contingency plans if you tried this experiment. I think for most people it would not be a good idea. May be you need to look at making changes in your meds to avoid weight gain, though thats probably been looked at already. Thats my view.

Dear mum23
Please have a go if you really feel the need to try this, but make a management plan for yourself. You will need the support of good friends and family to be honest with you and tell you how they think you are doing and you need to establish where a line will be drawn at which time you will start taking meds.
Can you talk this over with your GP and decide on a time frame (say 3 months) without meds. If you can adhere to your own structured daily plan of good eating, exercise, socialising appropriately etc etc and doing something productive etc with your time.
Trust is a big thing and having the folks around you who will tell you how they think your doing and seeing if it compares to how you think your doing.
