its hard to admit - that takes some guts angie - good for you! hopefully things can start looking up for you soon

Different people will react differently.

A lot of people will unfortuneitly tell you to get over it, snap out of it etc and those people are not very helpful.

Some people just take it in their stride and that the end of the issue.

A small number, once you tell them will be there to support you.

Since it is early days for you please just tell people you feel comfitable telling or people you need too i.e. work.

As you come to accept and understand your depression it comes easier to tell people.

It is a lot more socially accepted now then what it was even 10 years ago.

Mum/Dad where TERRIFFIC!!!! and also quite concerned about me, but I've kept them in the loop more now and they always want to know how things are going esp my visits with my FANTASTIC Psychologist , Boy does he have me totally worked out!!!.
Hubby has been LESS than over-joyed about me being so sick (depression) .
I feel I have his support when and if I need it---BUT generally he just gets on with life, normally!
The ONLY other person in this world I have told is my DARLING Sis-in-law---""shes the bomb"" ,
and with her I totally open up and are honest and she knows the real me and she sees the real me

My lovely but young daughters (aged 10 & 12)knew or guessed something was wrong with me , and they have had my illness explained to them from Nan & Grandad (my parents), they were told that I was in deep hole & sometimes I couldnt reach the top to be happy ((OR something like that, I'm guessing) cause my Miss 10 said to me the other day, Mummy how do we get you the ladder?

The hole analogy is a good one to use with people, very simple and effective.

I sometimes describe my depression as a roller coaster with highs (periods of well being) and lows (periods of being unwell).

Yep, where is that song...life is a roller coaster you just gotta...err somethingerather that I have forgotten...perhaps ride it?

my heart beats irregularly. I wish it would just stop completely...
