Re: new friends or support
HI Traceylee, What I wanted to say was - that where I lived last I got a group of women together by having a small piece in the local paper saying I was looking for girlfriends! (I knew that quite a lot of people had moved to the area) I was so surprised to get about 32 phone calls - anyway, we met for coffee once a week, went out for lunch about once a month, some started playing Mah Jong (which I still play and now teach!) had pot-luck lunches, a 'some-time' book group (not serious!) and visited gardens etc. The group is still going some 5 years later - none of them ever knew I had depression - I have a good 'coping face' when I'm with other people!!
I'm not saying you should do what I did - but just other people's ideas sometimes start something off - I really just thought I'd meet up with a few women to have a coffee with every now and then!
Food for thought? Others may have ideas to help you meet other people too.

Re: new friends or support
Forgot to say - My thinking was ... 'If it is to be, it's up to me' ..... something I'd read in one of my many books! ........ Daze
PS .... And I have had to overcome awful, debilitating, anxiety to be able to do something like this!

Re: new friends or support
Thanks for your comments - I know part of what made the group successful was - there was no structure - no treasurer etc, although they thought of me as 'the boss' - Lol ... not the bossy one ... at least I hope not! All the women had to do was turn up for coffee when they felt like it - when we went on outings I needed numbers that was all. Sometimes others arranged things. I would ask for suggestions of places to go - sent emails telling everyone what was going on - phoned those who didn't have email - mostly phoned when the ads were on TV, when coronation st was on!!!!!!!! For one woman, who I knew loved Coro st, the conversation went - Hello Sue, Ruffles tomorrow, 2 pm, bye ... we used to laugh at that ... mostly we had a lot of laughs ... potluck Christmas lunches - some of the women had big houses so could accommodate 20 odd people! .... mmmmmm .... might have to do something similar here!
