First time on meds
I've been diagnosed and I have been given citalopram to take once a day. I have information on it, but does anyone know anything about it to help me a bit more?
Does anyone know what the side effects are within the first few days?
Thanks

Re: First time on meds
try this site, posted on another post by Paddy
The government website MedSafe is a good first port of call to find out about meds you are prescribed, or may be prescribed.
http://www.medsafe.govt.nz/Consumers/cmi/CMIForm.asp
or
http://www.medsafe.govt.nz/profs/Datasheet/datasheet.htm (this link leads to info for medical pratitioners etc, so the info is somewhat more comprehensive that in the first link which leads you to Consumer Orientated info.
Please remember that not everyone has the same results from similar dosages of the same meds, 'cos we are all different.

Re: First time on meds
I'm also taking zopiclone to help me sleep. I'm only having half tonight and see how I go after that.

Re: First time on meds
Well the sleeping pills don't work. Last night I took half of one (as suggested by the doctor). After a while I went to bed and tried to sleep. But about 20-30 mins later I got back up because I couldn't, so was allowed the second half. That still didn't provide much help, except for my concentration, which was going, I would look around and I couldn't really focus on anything (like when you're really tired) So I went to bed. It took me a little while to sleep, but I don't think as long as it would usually (I think)..but..I woke up at 2am and have been awake ever since.

Re: First time on meds
I found Citalopram to have no side effects - i think its one of the good ones.
As for Zopiclone - half a pill really isn't enough in my opinion. If I need a sleeping pill I usually have to take a whole one. This usually works, but I sometimes feel tired the next day - and have a bitter metallic taste in my mouth.
I have found sleeping pills are useless if you have already had enough sleep - they only work if your body needs some.

Re: First time on meds
I managed to get another hour of sleep but I was looking forward to a great sleep because I thought it would help.
Maybe I do get enough sleep at night? It's just the initial start of falling asleep which I find difficult, and that was why they were prescribed to me. But the dumb things still didn't really work

Re: First time on meds
hmm maybe you could give your doctor a call today for clarification?

Re: First time on meds
I talked to the doctor, she said to keep taking one, as it may take a while to kick in. I hope I will get a better sleep tonight.

I bet you are. I remember my doc, suggesting I might try anti depressants, and I to, was exhausted. I'm thinking, these may well be great for you, so stick with it hun.

Thanks guys.. It's hard right now even though it is only the second day..So bloody tired.
My parents will find something is up when the notice my dialated eyes one day (and probably soon too )
I'm so nervous about that..I hope it doesn't stress me out too much..I'm tryinng to avoid seeing them, but I know it's not fair on them. *Sigh*

Re: First time on meds
I slept last night!!! I don't recall anything from when I went to bed, until I woke up at 5am, then fell asleep until 7am..So so happy it worked. Am still tired (and yawning), but as my friend said, that good sleep will set me up for the day.
I have a bit of the shakes too, but that could be because I need food in my system.
