Panic attacks Empty Panic attacks

Post by labyrinth Sun Aug 16, 2009 2:33 pm

Please can someone give me some clues on dealing with these. They are becoming increasingly hard to control. I get pins and needles all the time and sometimes almost pass out. I find it so hard to just snap out of it. I find myself unable to breath in and the more I try the harder it is. I think I'm going to start cutting gain as thats the only way I know to end the panic. Or is there another way? Do you know? Its all becoming too much so quickly.

Hi Labyrinth ...... there's a chat room at the bottom of the first page. I have a couple of minutes just now if you want to talk.

Otherwise - I used to suffer panic attacks (anxiety) - I found some good books about it (I know books are not everyone's cup of tea) - went to yoga, learnt a bit of relaxation etc.

books: by Dr Claire Weekes and Iris Barrow

Have you seen your Dr or a psychologist? Glad you're here - reading through some of the posts might be helpful.

I dont have a GP and its been at least 15 years since I ever spoke about any of this to anyone. I dont want to take to anyone. I want to just wake up and have it all gone.

I remember when I first heard PTSD and wondered if it meant Put To Sleep Disorder. Today is a zone out day. Its hard to know what to do, or who to talk to, if anyone. Its a small town, I dont know too many people. Maybe tomorrow.

One of our members, ZenMonster posted this Breathing Technique on another part of the Board. I hope it helps.

Controlled Breathing Technique.

Find comfy quiet spot on the floor and lay down on your back on a rug or blanket

stretch your arms above your head and breath in and stretch from the tips of your toes to the tips of your fingers

bring your arms back down to your sides and take 5 deep slow breathes in and out.......in through your nose and out through you mouth

take your hands and lay them palm down on your abdomen

counting to 5 in your head take a slow breath in through your nose, feeling your abdomen expand under your hands

hold the breath to a count of 5

counting to 5 in your head exhale through your mouth, feel your abdomen relax under your hands

repeat 5 times

and finish with 5 long slow breaths and relax

if you struggle to do a 5 count just bretah in andout for as long as your feel comfortable with.....over time you will be able to extend to a 5 count
