Here's a fable that came to me one sleepless night. It kind of sums up where I am at the moment. Please bear it in mind before you read anything else I may post here.

“The Girl Who Screamed Tiger!”

You remember the boy who cried Wolf? Well, he had a sister, who took over shepherding duties when her brother got eaten.

She knew never to lie, but when she saw a tiger threatening the sheep, she screamed loudly and the villagers came running. Unfortunately for her, her scream scared away the tiger, so the villagers found no tiger, thought she was lying, and beat her.

The next day, the same thing happened again, and the villagers beat her again.

So on the third day when she saw the tiger she knew there was no point in screaming, because that only leads to being beaten and called a liar, so she tried to ignore the tiger.

The tiger ate the sheep, ate the girl and left the area with its stomach full.

And to this day, the villagers still don't believe there was a tiger, and think the lying little b****h stole the sheep and ran away.

The Moral of this litle tale: Sorry, there isn't one, other than there's no point in complaining, you only get beaten, eaten, and blamed.

Oh poor suems
You sound so down. Keep screaming tiger and if they don't listen just let that bomb off that is building inside of you, aim it at them, they will soon know that you knew what they were talking about.

I have had that most of my life, some in my family would rather see me have an illness that might kill me than have depression. That's true i was called a drama queen for not coping until I have proof there was something more serious happening. They said that's good and they were glad, better than depression which is not an excuse for not being able to work and everything else. I have been told how unfair I am to my husband, putting all this on him, i'm lazy and a lot more. I just let all what i'm feeling out on the doctors, they don't mind, it gives them a good idea what head space you are in.

ok then, how can we be heard without scaring away the tiger, and without eating our selves up in the process with fear, worry or worse.

I think that is something we all need to consider.....

HI my life, One thing we have on our side that some of the younger ones don't is age. It does help, we have been through so much and survived. It doesn't matter how, we did it so we are strong. Books, Daze and Paddy have also been a God send to me when I was so unsure what to do next they gave wonderful advice. I felt that I wasn't getting the help I needed from mental health and the hospital cause they wouldn't listen to me. I found that speaking out no matter what I said as long as it was how I felt at the time has help and all the doctors have been good but I will only get the answers that I need with more testing which I wont have, but i do get help in the way of meds, a support worker and respite care. My Gp also does what I ask in reason, they can't risk doing more harm so it is always within reason. I email or phone my specialists when I feel stressed and give them a headache listening to what I feel, then apologize later when I'm feeling better. The young ones don't seem to have the freedom to speak out as we do in fear of ridicule. I think when you have been hurt too much to survive you learn not to feel the pain so much.
