The Wall (pushing yourself too far)
Hi all,
New member, but thought I'd contribute nonetheless to get some discussion going and to get myself involved in the group more.
I recently signed up for Round the Bays (8.4km fun run/walk in Auckland) with some friends and have been running in mornings and weekends to get myself up to raceday fitness.
Unfortunately, my fitness isn't up to my usual standards and I'm finding I'm "giving up" more and walking rather than running, which later frustrates me abut my training.
Any thoughts on how to beat the wall? I am getting a mountain bike sent up to me shortly, as well as my regular sessions at the gym/classes to build the fitness up which I hope will allow me to run the full 8.4km on the day. But would certainly appreciate any other thoughts or ideas.

I find that music really helps. It distracts you and running isn't so gruelling.

Re: The Wall (pushing yourself too far)
Just bought a new pair of running shoes (my old pair had finally done its dash after 8 years) yesterday. Went for a 6km run this morning and it was amazing to feel the difference to my running. It felt like I was concentrating more on the running than trying to correct each step. It's also made me feel alot better today and I feel like it's going to be a good weekend - another little success for me too
8 days to go until I run Round the Bays and I certainly feel more ready to take it on head first now.
