Hypnotherapy
I know it's not a medication, so may be in the wrong topic sorry.
Has anyone done or looked into hypnotherapy as a way of treating depression?? I remember vaguely looking roughly at it quite a few years ago, but am now thinking of looking into it more seriously and finding out costs and things etc.

Re: Hypnotherapy
Yes I have, LC. I have quite a lot of info, because I want to try it and I also want to train as a clinical hypnotherapist one day - betchya didn't know that, eh?
I think that with the right practitioner, who is well informed and not patronising, etc, hypnotherapy can be very useful in helping reinforce stuff our brains kinda know, but don't really yet fully believe. And I think that if a person is genuine about finding techniques to reinforce positive things, there is a very real place for hypnotherapy as a compliment to any other treatments we may have, BUT NOT EVER as a replacement.
I know of one 'therapist' whose site says 'Throw away your meds after One Session' or some such. I cringe at that. It just feels so wrong. Hypnotherapy is unlikely on its own to unleash within our brains, the chemicals that in our meds, are here to supplement our 'normal' production of those chemicals.
If you'd like to PM me your email addy LC, I will dig out some 'stuff' tomorrow if I remember.
If I don't, it will be TBTs fault, k? Look into my eyes and remember, it will be TBT's fault, K? You are feeling sleepy, confident that you know it will be TBT's fault, your eyes are getting heavy, pffft. Sorry.

Re: Hypnotherapy
Thanks Paddy, will do.
One of my aims this year is to get 'stable' on my meds and look into natural remedies and give them ago.

Re: Hypnotherapy
Hi LC it sounds like we are both interested in similar things. I too am going to try a few different therapies and see if it helps reduce both my pain and hopefully my Depression. I'm thinking of trying Acupuncture in a few weeks so that will be interesting!

Re: Hypnotherapy
HI LC
I went to the 'give up smoking' guru, hypnotherapist. there was a semi large group of us, smoking like mad before we went into the room.
I pretended to be hypnotized, cause everyone else looked like they were!!!
My sister after the session, threw her smokes into the rubbish bin! i secretly hid mine.
I too would like to be hypnotised - and helped to forget I have a mental illness, and believe i am a really famous singer. Yikes already done that when I was 'Manic' oh well the flip-side to bipolar.
Good luck LC

Re: Hypnotherapy
I have never been hypnotized, to me it sounds kind of scary, how do they go about it freedom? I wonder why you didnt go under. Did you sister stay off the smokes?
I have often had accupuncture, I find that rather amazing, would love a chart of all the meridians. Um, it can be very painful wehn they turn the needles, but not all the time, I did have to stop one session as it was over the top pain. But, I have had good results in the past, but not for depression. FOr physio issues.

Re: Hypnotherapy
LC - TBT says that she is very sorry, but she forgot.
To help her remember for tomorrow, I have tied a knot in her tail as a reminder. Bloody useless cat. Sorry, mate, on behalf of TBT. Bloody useless cat.
