New 'Handy Hints' section
At the recent request of a member, TBBD has grown by the addition of this new section to out Message Board.
If you've learnt a technique that helps you get though oh I dunno, Pannic Attacks or relaxation, or whatever and you think that others might benefit from what you now know, feel free to share it here. I dunno what sort of stuff will end up here, but thats what helps make life interesting.
I think that you lot are able to manage this section of the Message Board by yourselves, so here it is.
Admin.

Controlled Breathing Technique 1
[b]
Find comfy quiet spot on the floor and lay down on your back on a rug or blanket
stretch your arms above your head and breath in and stretch from the tips of your toes to the tips of your fingers
bring your arms back down to your sides and take 5 deep slow breathes in and out.......in through your nose and out through you mouth
take your hands and lay them palm down on your abdomen
counting to 5 in your head take a slow breath in through your nose, feeling your abdomen expand under your hands
hold the breath to a count of 5
counting to 5 in your head exhale through your mouth, feel your abdomen relax under your hands
repeat 5 times
and finish with 5 long slow breaths and relax
if you struggle to do a 5 count just bretah in andout for as long as your feel comfortable with.....over time you will be able to extend to a 5 count

Re: New 'Handy Hints' section
There is a breathing technique my councellor taught me and she called it snorting cocaine lol. Not ACTUALLY snorting cocaine but thats what it looks like.
Breathing through your nose, breathe in deeply through one nostril while covering the other with your thumb, then swap to cover the nostril you breathed in and breathe out the nostril you were covering when breathing in. Breathe in the same nostril you just breathed out of and out the other etc.
So, breathe in through one nostril then breathe out the other whilst covering the opposite nostril with your thumb. Does this make any sense at all? She said to do it 5-10 times and you can really do it anywhere, and if you do it looking in the mirror you will see why it looks like your snorting cocaine.
Anyway, what it does is even the oxygen to both sides of the brain, and is really good for calming ones self down at times of stress, panic attacks etc.
Hope you can make sense of my post as it really does help.

Re: New 'Handy Hints' section
ok,
finally,
Im back.
Great thread!
In the EAST we call these breath techingues, pranayama.(India)
THEY WORK well, and as One allows themselves greater entry into experimental-learning,the more-often you use them.
Its akin to meditation.
There is a Meditation thread here some when,
I will refresh it sometime.
In the medit'-thread ONE Way is given,
something that has come out of my own Thirty-three years of experience
in many different Cultures spiritual activities.

Re: New 'Handy Hints' section
I would love to adopt a kitten because kittens always cheer me up, unfortunately the landlord here doesn't allow pets. Boo.
However one of my concerns is that would I be able to manage the responsibility of looking after a cat for the next 15+ years?
I can't even keep a plant for several months without it dying eventually (RIP Diana the Venus Flytrap).

Re: New 'Handy Hints' section
No problemo- get to know some wildlife (my partner goes birdwatching- real birds) or offer to look after a friends' animal. If you have a petshop nearby, that can be therapeutic, without responsibility. Maybe looking after other peoples plants when they go away. Outdoor plants are easier. I mostly slowly kill indoor plants.

Miss Molly ( pooch)
Cuddling and holding onto Molly has been gr8 esp when severely depressed, trying to hold on (to life) not self harming. As for the panic attacks i have copied and printed off Zenmonsta's relaxation breathing technique - thank you Zenmonta...... many thanks for bumping thread Daze.
