Not panicking in three different very busy places today, when my first instincts were to get outta Dodge.

A crowded Pharmacy (I needed the meds); a Library full of yelling kids (I needed more books to read at night); and a supermarket celebrating its first birthday in new premises - I couldn't escape that one, my cat TBT was hungry but there were just so many people standing around gorging themselves on free finger-food and wine, that once one got into a traffic flow, ya had to stay in it. If ya wanted that aisle or not.

Felt good getting outside in the showers of rain after the supermarket, I can tell ya. It made the other two places look like kids play, by comparison.

Crikey, I get panicked in a town that only has two roundabouts and no traffic lights or parking meters. And on Saturday I fly down south to Christchurch for a holiday. I shall try not to pack my panic attacks, but I'll take the pills, just in case. Ah, the things we do to ourselves, lol. And most of them we seem to survive. Good, innit. Razz

Crikey, I dunno quite where to start. cheers

I have had a magnificent 10 day holiday with dear friends in Christchurch, including four incredible days in a bach at Moeraki;

I've been fishing;

I caught up with my gorgeous daughter and her Fiancé who seems a very nice sorta bloke indeed;

My daughter did baking for me (yum, but it didn’t have a long life, pffft);

Had a couple of rides in an aeroplane, which I enjoyed – very little turbulence or cloud so the views were fairly spectacular, following the east coast of the South Island and the west coast of the North Island;

I made my body do stuff I wasn’t sure it could still do and yep, I’m a wee bit sore but by crikey, the efforts I made were well worth it. It’s all that sorta stuff which builds good memories, to make the ‘wee bit sore’ times just that much more bearable, ya know? I even walked on a beach, without me sticks, just like a ‘normal’ person does it. That felt kinda good, ya know?

I didn’t panic during the big Earthquakes in Christchurch – I was busy holding on and can’t multitask, so panic wasn’t an option for me, lol.

And I’ve figured out why my short term memory has deteriorated so much in the last few weeks. I have accidentally doubled my daily dosage of Gabapentin and am gunna have to sort that out next year – its not early onset dementia after all by the looks of things, woohoo. ‘Cos when I remembered to, I was getting a bit worried, I was.

Happy New Year to you all and I hope that 2012 is a good one for all of us here.

Remember, misery isn’t compulsory, k. flower

The good thing is to know my son is in a caring place with some most awesome carers in his journey to get into a better place.

Another good thing was to be accepted as me. and given support, care and help in some of my many areas. TO someone out there, dude, you have no idea what you have done for me in the short time I have known you. Truly brings tears to my eyes. Feel so much gratitude to have had my teacher appear, someone I can really relate to and share everything with, how often does that happen. I am blessed, even though it really hurts.

TO that person. THANKYOU. What ever happens in my life, you are one person I will never forget. ANd I dont have many people in that place. Forever grateful to you for how you have treated me with so much care acceptance and ground root foot work walking around and around somewhere with me!!

Still flying high!!

Well, that didn’t go so badly after all.

I saw my GP today and told him that I’d cancelled my referral to a hospital for double hip replacement surgery because I don’t want the operations done. Yeah, for various reasons.

He was perfectly fine about it – none of this (as I thought might happen with my luck) ‘well we’ll Section ya and do it then, mwahahahaha.’ Whew, I’m glad about that.

And I’ll get a referral for a home needs assessment and see if I can get me a Zimmer Frame and some help with a few household chores which are getting hard to do. Cool.

My neck and spinal injuries are such that a hip or two really is neither here nor there in the scheme of things. I’ll still struggle to walk, so why waste the new hips on me when there might be some young fulla or fullaess’ who can benefit more from getting their hips sorted? Exactly.

Woohoo, a Zimmer frame. I want one with a seat, please.

Gotta be - accepting an invite to coffee with a cobber and his young family (and surviving his two year old with the tatters of my already dodgy sanity, intact.) An active wee chap that one.

I 'gave him a ride' on an elbow crutch by lifting him up and sticking his arm through the arm-hole thingy onto the handle. He thought that great fun but tactically it was an error 'cos he kept trying to take it from me, then. Kids.

It was good - I got a ride to the library and one to the supermarket and home. And a nice coffee and a few hours of yarns. Pity we had to compete with noise of The Wiggles, but. 'Cor blimmin Orstralyns. Embarassed

Have a good safe night all of ya's,

Enjoy ya weekend of crash and bash at the Speedway and please, feel free to drop in anytime you’re in the vicinity, now ya know the way. I have shortbread! Shocked

Crikey and haven’t I had a good run of visitors in the last week. cheers

Me old cobber Mike turned up unexpectedly this morning – yeah, I’d just headed off for a nana nap after doing the laundry and there was a voice I ain’t heard in a while. Yeah, silly ignorant sod – caught DIY (at long last) and has not had use of a motor vehicle and won’t for a while yet.

Whanau were shopping in town here, so they dropped him off for a visit. Ah, coffee and fibs, just like in the good old days when he had a licence. Still wanna nana nap, though. Embarassed

Paddy.

P.S. Max, he said Thank You at the time. I'm pleased he enjoyed them, as I enjoyed your visit. Thanks so much for that. Very Happy

Attending an ANZAC Day Dawn Parade and service.

There was more than 1,000 people of all ages, which wasn't too shabby for a wee town like Marton. Yeah, it hurt like feck standing there on crutches but I did it and then retired to bed for a well earned nana nap. I'm pleased I made the effort.

The good thing in my day is this:

I realised today that I am worth something. Be it a little something or a big something, I still have it.

I also realised today that people do still like me - for who I am and what I believe.

I realised this after many years of fighting depression, when I did not believe I was worth something.

We are all appreciated and worth something to someone or something. Yes you, the reader - you are worth something too and you are appreciated.

Very Happy

Opening my latest and 'actual reading' power account and finding its in credit. Whew. Don't tell TBT, but just maybe, Mr. Heater can visit more often, and earlier in the night.

I dread opening window envelopes, but that one wasn't so bad, whew.

And I've been for a walk in pouring rain to get milk and other essentials and although the walk and carry home was as usual, bloody painful, I enjoyed being out and about. Very Happy

Even more gooda, a mate called in and told me all about his brand new son (nah, didn't have his phone, so no photos) - 6 days old, he is. Apparently mum and bubs are both doing well, but I won't visit for a day or so - I have the sniffles and don't want the wee fella to have to find out about Man Flu this early in life.

Realising (again) that when one door closes another door opens.

Options that i thought would always been there have been shut to me for the last week or so, and i'm finding opportunities arising in places i forgot i could look!

Having cuddles with a baby. And with his big brother, who is two.

I was terrified of dropping him, but I had me first cuddle - Welcome to the World, little fella. We'll do our bit to keep an eye out for ya's both, won't we TBT. Then, we'll both run, not just TBT.

I'd forgotten too, how satisfying it was to hand a baby back to its mum - stinky little blighters, babies. I think he'd saving it up for me. Cher, bro.

Good Things?

I finally start receiving some Home Help here in my wee flat tomorrow afternoon. I've only been asking since the beginning of the year, more or less and its been bloody hard work being taken seriously but it looks like its finally gunna happen.

And in all probability, nothing would have happened had several of my neighbours not taken up the cause for me and spoken to their care workers etc about me 'cos I was about to give in and just accept what I was being offered - nothing. Bless Them. cheers

Good things in my day today

Post by ExplodingShrimp on Wed Oct 10, 2012 9:18 am

Wow, this is a really healthy thing to do

My partner and I went to a mutual friend's this morning and simply played Settlers of Catan (board game). It was great for him to get out and socialise and I had a good time.

Also, my dad shouted me a coffee Smile
