People have always judged me for who I am or what I am. Maybe I am like what people think I am cause I will always come out fighting when I feel that I need to protect myself or others who don't seem to be able to do that for themselves. I wish that there truly was a place where you could be where people didn't feel the need to judge when all they know is a very small part of who I am.
But i suppose that goes for everyone.

Sure does
its those that cant fight back that saddens me.

Jews?My friend is a Jew,
he has taught me much and has the openess to consider the non-Jewish in Me as a friend. We have helped each other infact,
and thats what it is about aint it?

We are lead to believe you Jews control the money world,
but what do I know,I am Poor in assets but strong in spirit.
From what I know about Jews(the gift of Asher Lev)
is that they are ppl also,
battling with what they too have been lead to believe.

Do you get sick of persecuting yourself?

What was it that Martin Luther King said (which can be applied to religions as well as races as well as plenty of other things) - 'that a man be judged by the strength of his character than the colour of his skin....'

Shalom Achoti

Unfortunately, to be anything that is a minority and different attracts the ire of the ignorant. I myself belong to several minorities picked on by the status quo.

However, what matters are the values that we hold inside; and in many cases should share with the world. Being judged because ones mother is Jewish is an old story, sadly repeated to often.

Af Al Pe Chain (Despite it all) we are all human. We all share this world. We are all connected.

The Jewish people are in the focus again due to a number of complicated issues. Rightly or wrongly, what happens in the Middle East affects many elsewhere. This sometimes means that Jewish people, far removed from the issues that spawn such ideas, get it in the neck. Sad
Also, the Neo-Nazi movement, in their misguided purposes, make things still harder.

LeShalom veDa'at (For Peace and Knowledge) we should live. Be the living example of what is wrong with the stereotypes bigots reproduce. Martin Luther King jnr was right. A person should only ever be judged by the colour of their character. Thanks Lowdown for mentioning that.

Me, I believe that people treat us partially in response to how we portray ourselves. It's amazing what our non-verbal communication can tell other people about how we see ourselves, what our attitutudes are etc.

Perhaps if you portrayed an image of being happy with yourself and confident, it won't 'provoke' others to comment on you as a person?

Yes minority's are often picked on... but these days everybody is part of a minority and if you're not, you're a minority Razz

Would you then call the prevailing western culture a minority? No, in the west it is most assuredly the dominate point of view. There are many minorities for sure. But there is most definitely a majority. A world view that is so pervasive it envelopes advertising, politics, jobs, etc, etc...

One is rarely aware of what it is like to be a minority in this western world, until one visits elsewhere such as China or India. When you are a minority in the west you feel like a tourist who is unaware of the right/wrong ways to behave. You have ideas about the world that aren't agreed with. Your common sense is now worthless; it belonged elsewhere.

Your point regarding; how one projects oneself is true, to a point. It is hard though to tell a black man that it's his fault for projecting when a cross was burnt on his lawn, his kids were harassed, and violence was done upon him. No my friend, some people are just bigots.

For me personally I don't hate Jews. I actually get frustrated that we live in a world where so many people are judged simply for being what they are. We are all human at the end of the day. Us humans seem to think we are so superior to other creatures on this earth. By what other creatures destroy the environment, start wars over beliefs and just generally treat others with such disrepect.

Post by Southernbelle on Mon Feb 09, 2009 10:49 am

wow this is a strong thread!

What i get frustrated about is being lumped as different, just because my views or beliefs arent the "norm" . I think this thread has alot of undercurrents that go with it. I dont judge anyone for who am i to judge anyone really, I am not a higher being, or anything close to it. I have spent many years of my life believing that i need to justify who I am to every1 i meet including my family. This I think has been 1 of the many causes of why I am the way I am now. Now i feel that i always have to explain myself. Or find myself apologising for who I am. It shouldnt be that way at all but it has been happening for so long now that it is habit and almost part of my character to do it. And that saddens me. I am not the me I was or should be purely because of my own insecurities that have steamed from people who think that they and their beliefs are the way it should be. This is also one of the main reasons i dont make friends easily. I dont let any1 in anymore. Why should I when I know they will judge me and at the end of the day hurt me as well.

Southernbelle I so relate to that! I find myself constantly trying to please others, to live up to their expectations.

jaffa then that is your weakness, trying to live up to everyone else's expectations.
when people do this all they are doing is feeding the appetite of one's that believe they have the right to judge. man up and be who YOU are! and then these people that judge will move on and find another victim eventually. sound unfair? sure does! and thats why racism is so successful, only through share ignorance of others.

hmmm brecky, It is exactly that sort of comment that makes me feel worthless. ' man up' altho you did direct this at jaffa i assume that it applied to me too being that he was commenting on my reply. Every1 says that 'dont worry about what other people think just be yourself' yeah right only if it conforms with them. Geesh It would take me years to find the real me again and then months to accept who i am myself. I have reasons for not shareing the REAL ME through many past experiences. Being laffed at, being the butt of jokes, whispered about. I guess i would Man up tho if i felt that i would be accepted but i just dont think that I ever will be. Grrrr i cant explain what im trying to say i can think it just cant word it if that makes sence. FRUSTRATING AS ANYTHING THO!

Re: Who hates Jews?

I can remember going to a drug and alcohol treatment place - to enquire about being a volunteer - and the guy, after talking to me for quite a short time - said 'you're a 'people-pleaser' - I felt I must have a label on my forehead! And so I went on to learn about this 'people-pleasing' - it is, for me, to do with coming from an alcoholic family - or dysfunctional (family) system and taking on a role to survive in the environment I was brought up in. I can clearly remember my Mother saying, on many occasions 'oh go on, do it to please me' !! and I took it literally, that I had to please other people ... all the time! ... These days I get so annoyed if I find myself being a 'people-pleaser' - saying or doing things to please other people - (not to be confused with helping or caring about other people.) Ah, .... such a lot of work to do to change from being a victim into a SURVIVOR!!

I agree that wanting to please everybody is my problem... I'm just not sure on how to change that fact... I guess it will happen if I just take it slowly.

owning the problem
is a problem half solved!

It is not your responsibility to make the World we live in a Happier Place.
Doing what you want to create your own happiness is the most important thing,
as then you can LOVE OTHERS out of excess, and not need something back!

ppl dont enjoy the needy as much as those that are full of Life!

Great post GM

If something in society is not how you think it should be, become that which you want it to be. Show the world in your actions how you feel it should be, and don't take on board the attitudes of others. Know that every individual in the world differs in some way.

This begs the question; why do we take on board that which does not belong to us when we do not want it? Anotherís opinion is just that; OPINION. If they are capable of change then all well and good. But if for whatever reason they wont change, then move on and empathise with their place of inflexibility. It is their prison.

As GM stated;

Doing what you want to create your own happiness is the most important thing,
as then you can LOVE OTHERS out of excess, and not need something back!

It is the internal journey that profits us most. Happiness is accepting the things we cannot change. Changing the things we can. And learning to tell the difference between what can and cannot be changed. As the popular prayer goes.

Bigoted people are a sad fact of life. However, getting over that fact is the first step towards personal empowerment. Love everyone as you love the most precious person in your world, forgive quickly, do not judge, and personify goodness. Change the world simply by changing yourself.

That is quite true, but not easy. If it was there wouldn't be many people with depression in this world.

depression is a gift,
we receive from Grace.
Grace is Neither Negative Nor Positive.

It is our conditioning which
allows us to make
use of lifes experiences.

Where we have un-true conditioning
we stand to make headroads into healing,
and in that process become who we really are.

Strong and Certain.

Feel the sun
Feel the rain
Feel hurt
Feel Pain
Feel the cold

But with love

Do not suffer in the sun
Do not suffer in the rain
Do not suffer from the hurt
Do not suffer from the pain
Do not suffer in the cold

For truly

The sun is both blessing and curse
The rain is both blessing and curse
Hurt is both a blessing and curse
Pain is both a blessing and curse
The cold is both a blessing and curse

It is us who give feelings meaning
Suffer not
Suffer not
By the grace of love suffer not

No,
not so sad for me.

I'm at the Tail-End of Depression since 1999
and i think Ive made heaps of progress.
Now I feel strong enough to give back some of the strength I have gained
from investigating myself and learning that Im an OK Bloke!
Yes,
Im still on the pill and have learnt to love it.

Sure its easy to off-load positive-advice we havnt capitalised upon for our own well-being
and we really should discuss matter,as this desire to help others
can be a trap!

All effort should be on #1.
When we are starting-out,its good to contain the wonderfull energies that come about from therapy and councilling. We must contain and conduct our life-force so as to have enough to keep us outa the pits
(if depression is your thing)and allow us to also heal physically. The effects of mental dis-orders can wear down the bodies healing and maintanance powers. If we have imbalance in the mind we will beguin to suffer pysically.

I like to mention to people
to GET SELFISH in the POSITIVE WAY!
YOU FIRST,and then GIVE OUTA EXCESS.

ie,stay grounded
and learn to handle life
from inside your Body!
Never give yourself away
either-way.
