that's fucken sad about your fish, it's always sad when fish die. if they were my fish i'd probably get pissed and have a big cry but have a couple of valiums on hand if it gets too depressing to chill me out.....

Thank you. You're awesome.
Grown men aren't allowed to cry. Thems the rules - and you know how much of a stickler I am for rules *sarcasm

So I'll go lie in the foetal position in the corner of a darkened room and do what you said.

weird how people say that, funny how society dictates our thoughts and almost brainwashes us into believing stuff like 'Grown men aren't allowed to cry ' and we go along with it and don't even question it? how strange are we humans? is something hurts it is a natural response to cry but we are not meant to? Or maybe it it's something deeper in our subconscious , that in the deep depths of pain maybe we have to cry alone, almost howl out our pain and I would be to self conscious to do that in front on anyone I think.....but having said that, must be practical about these things, if you do do a big big big cry , if it was me I  would cry as much as I could bear it (pissed ), take 2 valiums , get the cats and stagger into warm bed with fresh sheets on and read good book to distract me to sleep. feck lying on hard floor etc for to long, wake up with sore back, add to misery plus limp.
come to think of it used to cry in daytime sometimes not pissed them went to bed with valium etc to have a sleep to escape all that pain I had just let out

sorry, just thought actually not very PC in this day and age to mention alcohol etc, is meant to make feeling sad about dead fish worse but if not pissed etc all the time find it can help and give you another perspective on things plus every one needs a bit of woe is me time.....whatever you need to get you through is what I think

I agree with you on all counts. It is weird how we have developed social "norms", some that work, and many that don't. The norms do change over time, with education and understanding. The problem is that they usually swing from one extreme to another. The good example you gave there is "we seem nowadays to have to be very PC in all things we do and say" - that has gone to an extreme.

I am slowly coming out the other end of the darkness. I also have to have the capacity to manage a full time job during the day - so my lying on the floor in a foetal position is done mentally instead of physically (although I would like to do that) ... you are right, a soft bed is better than a hard floor.

Thank you for the hug. Hugs back.
You seem like a very real/genuine person. Thanks for that too.

The other norm is that I am not giving myself enough time to process and heal/recover. It is an expectation (self-taught) that I "get back on my feet as quickly as possible", at least with a tough exterior, and get back to doing my work and duties even before I am actually ready. For example, I am close to the end of a relationship because I am not recovering fast enough. All sad.
Fish are still dead.
