Reality On Depression
Decided to post up my writing on my recent experience of depression, trying to put depression into words so others could understand it.
Maybe this may help someone? As it was definitely therapeutic for me writing this. Writing is one of the way that I managed to survive through it.
Also, I was inspired to write this by 'Prozac Nation', which I first read that when I was 18 and found so much comfort in being able to identify with the author's life and struggle with depression and knowing she'd managed with it. So my writing takes a similar style. Having some people admit their own struggles with depression to me after this writing came out was surreal - helped me a lot to realise how common depression is. This was first thing I've written in years and the first thing I've published, so people's reactions to it definitely encouraged me to keep writing.

This was published in Massive magazine, the massey uni nation-wide student magazine in july and august. So it was written for a student readership - hence the references to Massey and use of swearing etc. Excuse that.
