Gabapentin Anyone?

Post by Paddy on Tue Sep 13, 2011 7:17 am

I'm interested to know of any persons experiences with Gabapentin, which I have just tonight started as a means of better controlling nerve and neurological pain.

Three, 300mg capsules a day, in place of Tramadol, which really wasn't a great help but I too stupid to tell my GP and pain clinic specialists, etc. It shoulda worked, except I have the luck to be one of the few who don't really extract much benefit from them, no matter how many I took.

So Gabapentin, here we come. I am really looking forward to being less sore than I have been. cheers

Paddy.

P.S. Thanks too, to Grant of Marton Pharmacy, for all the extra effort he went to for me, when the GP kinda maybe didn't get the Script quite right, the first time.

Yep, Gabapentin is definitely helping me with my pain management in ways that Tramadol never did.

I get times now when I suddenly notice 'hey, my neck / back / pelvis / legs (insert appropriate body part so to speak) isn't all that sore, I can do this.' That is a most unusual feeling after 38 odd years or so of pain.

It ain't every day, but its often enough for this bloke to really notice and appreciate. Thanks Doc. cheers

Thanks for that Link, JK.

I had a read of a few folks Ďexperiences and ratingsí of Gabapentin, but the biggest thing for me is that itís helping me, when lots of other meds have not.

I tried Nortriptyline for exactly the same reasons Iím now taking Gabapentin and had an extremely scary month or so before refusing to take any more of them. That doesnít mean the Nortrip isnít any good for that use, just, it didnít agree with me.

Be cool if there was some sorta Lab Test they could do to identify which meds will be compatible and help, rather than hinder, but it is still a bit trial and error, given we are also different.

OK, last week wasnít so much fun. My GP suggested I reduce the dosage of Gabapentin per day and see if it was still helping, at that lesser level.

Short Answer: That was a scary week, just gone.

Iíve gone back to the original dosage and feel a darn sight happier, and safer.

It kinda helped that I slowly worked out it was the Ďmedsí and not Ďmeí this time and the bad thoughts were accompanied by a headache in the base of my neck that I thought I might never get rid of, after four days of it. On the fifth day, I increased the dosage of Gabapentin, the headache buggered off all by itself (whew) and I was able to undiscombobulate my brain, a wee bit anyway.

Lucky that week has been and gone Ė I donít have to do those days ever again. Woohoo.
