PMS, PMDD.. Effexor? Help!!
Hey everyone,
I was a member of this group ages ago and then I couldn't remember what my username was!!!!! I had to create a new one :-)
I'm desperate to find out if there are others in a similar situation to mine. Basically I have always had a history of depression and anxiety. For the past few years and especially after having my son the 2 weeks before my period are terrible.. it's like PMS on steroids. I am a completely different person, irrational, angry, emotional.. the list goes on and on and on. When I'm happy during the two weeks after my period I think I can do anything and have so much more motivation. I have applied and cancelled my studying through massey university twice now.. I nearly got through one paper.. but cancelled when I was in the midst of this PMS.
Anyway.. I was referred to Mental health and at the appointment I was not impressed.. they said they had never heard of anything like what I was going through and instead told me I need to go to some grief counselling. My baby passed away (My sons twin brother) in utero at 27 weeks and they were both born at 30 weeks. I know my own body and I know what goes through my head and while I obviously miss my baby I feel like I have dealt with it as much as any mother could do.
I'm on Effexor.. 225mgs. I worry a lot about this... it's quite a high dose for it not to be having any positive effect!!
Look forward to any responses

Re: PMS, PMDD.. Effexor? Help!!
I am the same I get really bad pms for a couple of weeks before my period. I am on citalopram for depression in general but I still find that it maybe caused mostly from the pms. But then I could have mild depression and those two weeks Im at my worst.
Anyway I am sorry that your doctor did not listen to you properly Is there anyway you could see another doctor for a second opinion. I think pms should be taken as seriously as depression as I believe that females that suffer from pms also can have suicidal thoughts.

I haven't had this issue with EFEXOR but then again - I haven't been not pregnant long enough to know.
This is the second time on this drug for me this time and much better the second time round.
I have been on just about every drug they can give you.
Are you on anything else? Have you spoken to your doctor or therapist?
