2 smell or not 2 smell.

heres my problem.
im on abilify,aropax and seroquel for bipolar and anxiety disorders.
with them im a completely different person.happy,motivated,calm and social.
without them i rapidly sink into depression anxiety and general disorder.
the problem is,when i take the meds i aparently exude an awfull smell .like,a really really awfull smell that washing more frequently(two or more showers a day),using strong deodarants and changing clothes 2 to three times a day doesnt dispell.
my family have convinced me to come off my medication due too this,and im vain enough to want to smell good,not like a dead carcus!but after a month i can feel the old problems coming back.
its the only medication thats worked and ive been on meds for 12 years now.
i dont know what to do!
advice would be welcome,even my doc is stumped!

Tough situation.

My personal feeling is that being well and happy is more important than having body odor. Much more important.

I would stay on the meds and try and find ways to deal with the smell.

im with jk on this one.. toughf decison but i think ultimatley being well is far more important and is going to give you a far better quality of life than the chatoic living without the meds that youve finally found to work!.. have you spoken to a doctor about it? perhpas there is a med that can alos be given to combat the body odor?

ah sorry i missed the part where you said your dr is stumped! has he looked into other medical reasons why this mite be happening? perhaps you can get a second opinon?

i did a bit of research on the net and found that one of my meds (aropax) is known for this reaction and causes excessive sweating (the smell is worse when i sweat) so im going to try dropping that med and staying on the other two and see what happens.my doc is ok with this.

I know what you are talking about and it is horrid, isn't it.
But as much as I loathe and seek my own solutions to that problem, its much much better than life for me not on the Aropax.

I wouldn't recommend stopping the anti mad meds just to smell sweet, sorry. Definitely keep talking to your doctor and let him know that what you are experiencing is a very common and most distressing side effect. None of us like feeling and smelling 'rank' and it can result in further isolation leading to worsening depression etc.

Its actually quite a big deal, isn't it, and not a good thing when it leads us to conclude that maybe odour free and mad is better than rank and more in control of life?
