I'm at the end of my tether

Post by Martinc on Wed Oct 27, 2010 12:17 am

I don't know where to look for help - I can't seem to find any simple way to talk to someone who has the time and understanding to listen.
I'm diagnosed as bipolar 2 and am taking a cocktail of lithium, quetiapine, venlafaxine and others and while at times they seem to stablise me, at other times like right now, I sink to the bottom of the pit and just want to step off the roundabout and end it all. There's only the tiniest of threads keeping me away from doing it today and I can't find anyone to help.
I have the phone number for the local CATT team but they have far more important things than worrying about me and my issues.
Why isn't there an access path to a counsellor?
When I google suicide help I get no real useful links.
AAAAH! I would welcome anything,
Martin

Martin - I care, I am sorry I am not closer as I would happily come and pick you up and ensure you got the help and support you so desperately need. I don't have any answers sorry but just wanted to know that at least one of us here cares a lot - and I am sure every single other person on this forum does as well. Get your wife or daughter or anyone for that matter that will take you seriously to knock on doors and not give up until one is answered.

Martin - the CAT team can support you short term and link you up with a team for ongoing support. Alternatively, they can help you access community-based resources. There is no real hierarchy of who is deserving of CAT's attention and time... they're there to help, even if that sometimes involves pointing you in a different direction.

Alternatively, your GP can refer you in, or perhaps point out where to access counselling or psychology input. The PHO's have contracts and funding for such things to help people before they end up in crisis.

Hugs, and hope to you!

it strikes me that there is a serious lack of 'listening' going on in our community.
places to go to when advice is not necessarily required, but an understanding, and empathetic ear (one that stays neutral and doesn't jump on the bandwagon with you) could do the world of good!!!

i will continue to ponder this, since i believe it can't be that hard to implement into the community, but still there is a gap that needs to be filled.....

Just hang in with us all Martin, god knows I think we all feel like stepping off the roundabout at times, I know I truly do.

Just lets all try to do one day at a time. One hour if needs be, or even less, just what is in front of us at a given moment.

Its really all we can do. Its something I learnt from AA. Yes, I am an alcoholic, I wont hide that fact, and, reason I drank was to numb all these dam feelings.

Just a couple of nights ago, I was ready to jump off the cart into numbness.
An aa friend spoke with me via text for a couple of hours.

I still hurt, deeply, but that crisis is in the past now.
Just one thing at a time Martin, its all we can do.

Fluffy, you are onto it there, it is for us to simply be able to talk but without someone rushing in saying do this or do that....just to hear us.

Maybe we could start a text group or something??

LOL,

In the past when I have told someone I feel at the end of my tether, and dam it they say, well tie a knot and hold on....

DOesnt it make you want to scream.....I DONT WANT TO HOLD ON....

Its hard to talk about bad feelings with some. SOme people I dont think will ever be able to understand how it feels.

txting is hard when you're the listener - since from the txters point of view, if you don't say anythign, you may not be there at all. Shocked

i think this group is a good start. to be able to convey messages of hopelessness, in a supportive environment (and i dont mean the support that says jump! or the support that tells you how to FIX it) but one that allows you to speak your truth and be heard.

unfortunately, right now, i don't have the support to implement this project - but i will think on it, and see what i come up with.
