Moclobemide
Hi All.
Well I've seen my very first psychiatrist, and after complaining the first four didn't work, he has put me on a fifth time of medication.
Anyone tried moclobemide? Apparently this one works differently to most other antidepressants (SSRI's). It is an MAOI, so works on a different chemical.
Anyway I've been off my meds for a week, and have to go one more week before I start the new ones. If I go loopy, you know why Wish me luck.
JK.

Re: Moclobemide
Hi JK, good luck with taking Moclobimide. I did take it years ago and remember that it worked for me for a time. As you have mentioned, often we have to try a number of different Antidepressants to find the right one. I haven't taken any Antidepressants (A.Ds) in a long time, however, I realise that I need to start taking them again. I know it sounds trite but life really is short. I want quality of life and suffering the awful effects of depression do not give one quality of life hence the need for A.Ds. JK I hope taking Moclobimide works for you and that you feel better soon. Good luck!

Re: Moclobemide
Thanks for your kind words all.
I have decided not to take the medication that was prescribed (i discussed this with my counsellor and they support my decision). I am doing better these days. Still have the occasional sudden low mood, but I get through them.
Thanks again.

Re: Moclobemide
Hi I wish I could not take my anti depressants but I go all tearful without them.
The counsellor I see is in dead earnest and enthusiastic and repeats everything I say back to me even though he's got a tape recorder going.
It prevents conversation and a narrative ensuing. I want to tell him but he means well. Let the patient talk don't scribble while they are doing so but I'm a dinosaur of course.

Re: Moclobemide
Hey Martine, It may be just a 'short term' thing tho these meds, given that we are all sure to live until around 90 and we might be on them for a few years,
Hang in there Martine, you'll be fine.

Re: Moclobemide
Dear my life
Please don't wish that on me! Every single day is a struggle I don't want to be here when I am 90. I am making goals even today, one of them is that I am hoping a few of us will visit Paddy over Christmas coming (just to make it even worse for him).
I could stay alive for that just to spite him, because I know he doesn't like
Christmas so I could take him out for a pint and we could cry into our beer together. Are u up for this? Martine

Re: Moclobemide
I would be great if we got together a wee while at Christmas I think.
I know some people will have family plans but I don't and I need to buy Patrick a wee dram to say thanks for getting me thru this Christmas.
