What now?

Post by Roswell on Tue Nov 03, 2009 3:50 pm

My exam is over and study is done for the year as there is no summer school for psychology.

WHat am I going to do with myself now till February. I am job hunting but having no luck, I do half a days volunteer work each week and there is no further scope to expand it. If anything it will become less cos they have just hired a receptionist.

I find it hard to get up in the mornings cos there is nothing to get up to. I waste half the day lieing in bed.

Hi Rossie, Does the foodbank need any help - I phoned about becoming a volunteer here in NP - but they have plenty at the moment ... might be worth a try, or the Sallies - coming up to a busy time of year for them. Also look at notices in the supermarket - might be something part-time - someone needing someone for a temporary (or small) job. Hope you find something - we need something to get out of bed for!

Get up for you!

You gotta get into yourself
and give YOU the beans you're entitled to give yourself.
Get SELFISH in a POSITIVE MANNER!
Youve worked hard....
now get up and play hard whilst enjoying your new life,
the way that will serve you well.

Hi Roswell first let me say congratulations on finishing studying for the year. Yay!! I found it almost impossible to study while dealing with a mental illness so good on you for being able to do that. I also want to say that it is really difficult to sometimes get up if you feel that you don't have a purpose. I find that I need to fill my time and I do this by having a routine i.e get up around the same time and go to bed around the same time. I always feel better about things once I get out of bed. Have you considered doing more volunteer work? I see you live in Wellington. There is usually a Volunteer centre in Cities that has a database of places that need volunteers. I have even found paid employment from volunteering which is great. I also like to regularly catch up with friends and have started some new hobbies which has been enjoyable. Good luck and hope things improve for you. flower

been busy. Done a job application for ACC, went for a walk into to (approx 9km), have signed up for summer hockey and went and got a quote for all the gear and done my grocery shopping for the week.

I have a full day tomorrow. Have an early morning WINZ appointment, work at WellElder then off to see an employment consultant.

Friday I have another meeting with an employment consultant and we are going to be doing some cold calling.

Monday/Tuesday I have a one off job.

So I am busy the next few days but then it goes quiet.

Wow Ros, what a heap of energy you have. It makes me tired just reading about it all.

You've been busy! Another thought I had Rossie was that once you've done these things in the next few days - why not give yourself a break for a few days and have a 'mini holiday' (maybe go and sit in the Botanical Gardens in the sun (if there is any) one day etc) - after a year's studying you deserve one! I know this will depend on when you start a job but just a thought ..... Daze

Hi Roswell *does alien hand signal*

3 months off is a long time I won't say im incredibly jealous because that won't help you but if I had 3 months off Id sit down and write a list of things i wish i could, should or would do if I was as free as a bird!

Perhaps now is the time to write that novel or screen play?? There might be community classes going at your local centre or high school and now is the time to learn tae kwando or how to roll sushi properly! Plan outtings to rediscover where you are from and where you live?

None of that probably interests you but it sure has inspired me to seek out my own kind of fun and Im sure you will find things of interest for you and I sure do hope a job comes along soon. You are definately going about things the right way and if you end up in Auckland for your holidays you can definately hang out with all us lovely people up here! Smile

THE KEY to this going quiet Ros,
is to make some time immediately for meditation,
early morning and late afternoons, 'whilst you are in BUSY times!'

This is
important as when things 'quieten down' you have a technigue in place
rather than fall into a Hollow-Place and not know where you are!

This meditation is the tool for settling oneself SLOWLY into our wonderful interior.

By gaining control before we need it
(before you stop activity)
you approach yourself out of DESIRE
rather than as a means of 'getting out of mental frustrations'.

It works both-ways of course,
but when youre mentally frustrated or in one of the many anxiety-states,
its much more difficult to find the deliciousness of ones own space inside,
and entanglement in the Mind APPEARS QUITE REAL.[b]
