Ok I need your help

Post by peterpam on Wed May 27, 2009 9:53 pm

I have a 104/5 year old building, which is triple brick and concrete. I have decided, that I would love to take back interior walls, to the brick, which obviously means chipping back the plaster to get at the bricks. Well I started LOL and damaged the very first brick. Well anyone with any sense, might just stop here, but as I don't like to give up EVER, I'm thinking, surely there's got to be something I can put on/over the plaster to soften it so this job will get a little easier. Are there any plaster's here for some advise???.

All I know about DIY is that experience has proved, its best I don't. But it occurs to me, that plaster is mixed with water, to make it workable.

So, would something like a wallpaper steamer, applied to sections of the plaster wall, not heat and dampen it enough for a large wide bladed pallet knife thingy to ease it off from its bond with the bricks in nice managable chunks? (ah, technical terms, see, I know them all)

Please note, this suggestion is made entirely Without Prejudice and at your risk in all things Razz

I would suggest you go into mitre ten and talk to them. They are very helpful and may have some ideas for you.

Thanks guys for your'e input. Pat, every thing I do comes with risks {huge usually), lol, but oh well, I wouldn't be me if I didn't take risks. Thanks Roswell, will have a wee talk with my local hardware over the weekend to see what they have to say

Not good mylife. Have uncovered a few other unexpected things that need my attention (sad). But oh well, had to come to the surface at some stage, better now than later when they really would be a problem. Not giving up (yet), lol.

How big is the room?

Get a brickie in to lay a false wall in front of it, and no one need ever know, cept us and we won't tell. Tell him to use demolition bricks, halved, so you have a random finish.

Before he places The Last Brick in The Wall, write a List of all the Problems you no longer want, seal it in an Envelope and drop it behind the new wall. Then, you fit the last brick. Gone!

If only all of lifes wee problems could be bricked up and left to starve, eh?

hmmm, yep had thought of that Pat, but each brick will have to be cut, cos i have a rather lrg window on this wall and the cost would be out of my reach, at the moment. Hopefully I have fixed a leak problem on this wall, so will wait until next lot of heavy rain and then maybe replaster this wall and think about another, haven't decided yet. Still thinking thinking, lol, problem is, I always want everything done yesterday.
